Will adding a different viscosity motor oil to a hybrid make shaking a little bit more?
Apr 06, 2011 by heartegram_james | Posted in Honda
I have a 2003 civic hybrid,,and the guy I bought it from didn't add 0w-20 oil he added something else. cus the car shakes when I'm at a stop, and once I release the brake it stops.
This doesn't sound like an oil problem to me. I'd take it to a GOOD mechanic to find out the problem.

i dont see the oil being the issue, that would effect your over all fuel economy. the vibration can be related to a vacuum leak in a system such as the vacuum brake booster. i am not sire if a Hybrid would be equipped with that but you get where i am going with that i hope.

that car requires 0w-20 oil. anything else will cause it to not start or stall like that, as well as possibly turning on the check engine light

Are different motor oils viscosity affected by temperature the same?
Feb 23, 2010 by Elise | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
Let's say you had motor oil from Penzoil and increased the temperature to 100 degrees. Then you found out the viscosity of this oil. Let's say you did the same thing with motor oil produced from Shell. Would the oils have the same viscosity?
Within a fairly small range mineral base oils have a similar pour point and flash point. Synthetics have a greater variability, but all surpass the mineral oil performance numbers.

Motor oils are produced under a standard. Two things effect an oils viscosity, temperature and dilution.
cre8it_now | Feb 23, 2010
They're usually quite similar. As long as they meet the same spec (e.g. they're all 5W-30), they should be extremely close. The specs define a narrow range that oils meeting that spec must fall into.
http://www.pqiamerica.com/testresults3a. html has a test showing the various viscoscities of a variety of oils. You can see how close they all are.

I have an experiment to test how temp. affects viscosity of oil and I need to have 3 temperatures to test above 20 degrees celsius. Any suggestions on those 3??
Thanks a BUNCH

No ONE OIL TYPE OR BRAND can ever be right for everyone. So, instead of TELLING you which oil you should use, I’m going to teach you how YOU CAN KNOW which oil and filter is right for YOUR vehicles and equipment. "The Motor Oil Bible" is BY FAR the most comprehensive and easy to read motor oil and filtration manual EVER WRITTEN, and I guarantee that the knowledge gained from reading it will ABSOLUTELY save you thousands of dollars over the life of your vehicles.
It is a FACT that lubrication and filtration of your vehicles is the single most important thing affecting your overall expenses throughout a vehicle’s life.

Of course, you might be thinking to yourself, "I don’t even HAVE $4,000 in vehicle expenses each year", but, chances are YOU’RE WRONG, and I’ll explain to you why I believe that, but you’ll have to keep reading.
Viscosity is one of the most commonly misunderstood aspects of motor oil lubrication. Many people "think" they understand viscosity but have fallen victim to alot of misconceptions. Many others struggle with knowing just what viscosity will really work best for THEIR vehicle and THEIR driving conditions, and asking their mechanic is often futile at best or misleading at worst.
Never again be unsure about what viscosity to use. You will understand motor oil viscosity backwards and forwards.
