what is the best health plan that covers for in vitro fertilization process?

Its not the health insurance company that matters but the coverage plan you get. Some plans will cover more than others. some will cover infertility services and some will only cover testing for infertility. When you are signing up for your insurance you need to make sure you get an infertility rider, that includes invitro, added to your plan.

I have heard mention AHM insurance on the radio a fair bit lately, on key coverage they mention ivf/pregnancy insurance. Might be worth looking into.

All the best :)

what is the process of in Vitro Fertilization?

what is the process of (IVF) regarding biotechnology

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a process by which egg cells are fertilized by sperm outside the womb, in vitro. ( Note that the term in vitro, from the Latin root meaning within the glass, is used, because early biological experiments involving cultivation of tissues outside the living organism from which they came, were carried out in glass containers such as beakers, test tubes, or Petri dishes.)

With in vitro fertilization, eggs are surgically aspirated from the woman's ovary under ultrasound guidance and mixed with sperm outside the body in a laboratory dish. After about 40 hours, the eggs are examined to see if they have become fertilized by the sperm and are dividing into cells. These fertilized eggs (now called embryos) are then placed in the women's uterus, thus bypassing the fallopian tubes where this process normally occurs.

This procedure takes place in 7 major steps:
1. Ovarian hyper-stimulation:
in this step the woman may be given certain drugs (hormones) to stimulate her ovaries to produce several eggs before the procedure to remove them.
2. Egg retrieval:
A surgeon then inserts a needle through the vagina into the woman's ovary to remove eggs.
3. Egg and sperm preparation:
The fluid removed from the woman’s ovary is examined in the laboratory to make sure eggs are present.
At the same time, the man provides a semen sample. He is asked not to have sexual intercourse for a few days before the eggs are retrieved from the woman and before he produces a semen sample (usually by masturbation). The sperm are separated from the semen in a laboratory procedure.
4. Fertilization: The active sperm are combined in the laboratory dish with the eggs. This may be referred to as in vitro fertilization.
5. Embryo culture:
About 18 hours after this fertilization procedure, it is possible to determine if the egg or eggs have been fertilized and have begun to grow as embryos. They are incubated and observed over the next 2-3 days or longer. Typically, embryos are cultured until having reached the 6–8 cell stage three days after retrieval.
6. Embryo selection:
Laboratories have developed grading methods to judge oocyte and embryo quality. In order to optimize pregnancy rates, there is significant evidence that a morphological scoring system is the best strategy for the selection of embryos
7. Embryo transfer:
The doctor then transfers the embryos into the woman's uterus through the cervix with a catheter (a long slender tube). The woman should then remain in a resting position for the next hour or so. She is given certain hormones for the next 2 weeks. If implantation works (the egg or eggs attach to the uterine wall and grow), the pregnancy test result is positive.
P.S:
Studies suggest that in vitro fertilization is safe. If a woman has IVF, she may not have to undergo surgery on her fallopian tubes. It is estimated that the IVF technique has reduced such surgeries by half.

Daughter donating her eggs for invitro fertilization?

I'm having trouble which side to go on in answering this assignment but I'll try and make it as short as possible.

A 46 year old Mrs. Charlton was divorced for 10 years and has one child (25 years old daughter) and is married to a 49 year old childless widower. Mrs. Charlton goes to a clinic for in vitro fertilization program, where she is rejected for the process, however, her husband's sperm would be used to fertilize an egg cell from an anonymous donor. The embryo could then be implanted in a surrogate mother and carried to term.

Because Mrs. Charlton wants her child to be genetically related, her daughter offers to donate the egg cell to be utilized in the in vitro fertilization process where the unborn child would have 25% of Mrs. Charlton's genetic material - leaving Mrs. Charlton to be both a mother and grandmother to the child and the daughter would be both its mother and sister.

Should the donation be approved?

sure - why not? she would be the childs mother, not grandmother. SHE would raise the child, her daughter only supplied the biological material. if it was an anonymous donor, the donor wouldnt have the title of mother...

More couples turn to in vitro fertilization | Hawaii News Network

It’s a complex procedure that can have a big payoff.

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a baby carriage…right? Well, not always, as Jeff and Lynn Haring found out.

"I come from a big family and my older sisters — they had their kids a little older too," Lynn said.

Lynn and Jeff actually fell in love ten years ago, but wanted to travel before starting a family.

In 2005 they got married and started trying to have a baby soon after.

"You assume it’ll happen and then time passes by month after month and you get start getting worried like uh oh," explained Lynn.

"And then we started doing timing, all the things you can do naturally, to try you know, time the ovulations. And do the ovulation testing," Jeff said.

They also tried "relaxing" per friends advice.

"So we go to Molokai, nothing to do there right? Ha ha, Kauai, little trips," Lynn said.

That didn’t work – neither did yoga, acupuncture, or feng shui.

Finally, after all else failed, they turned to infertility specialist Dr. Benton Chun at IVF Hawaii.

"People are waiting longer now to get pregnant. In in vitro fertilization, almost 60% of the people are over age 35," Dr. Chun said.

In vitro fertilization is a process by which eggs are fertilized by sperm outside the body.

As an embryologist, Pauline Balazy gets to randomly pick the single sperm that gets injected into the egg.

"It’s definitely a very rewarding job," Pauline said.

Helping couples like Lynn and Jeff, but the procedure isn’t guaranteed.

Lynn and Jeff actually started doing IVF three years ago.

"The first one didn’t work, the second one wasn’t viable, (miscarriage) after 8 weeks. And the third one didn’t work," Lynn said.

"Mostly it was her age," Dr. Chun said.
