Is cryo-preservation a good option to abortion? (freezing & storing a new embryo, while still cell-sized)?

Fertility clinics do this with newly fertilized eggs. Later they re-implant with greater than 50% success.... Some moon craters that are always dark have cold enough temperatures to store cryo-preserved cells for a very long time! As moon transport becomes feasible, many cryo-preserved embryos could be put there, both human & animal. Several interesting reasons: a. "back-up" earth in case of major catastrophe, b. retrieval decades later when a parent is better off (health or finances), c. insuring an heir, d. acceptable abortion alternative, e. acceptable "disposal" of excess embryos from fertility clinics, f. bloodline or endangered species bank, g. clone storage (thinking ahead), h. possible launch of "back-ups" to seed the stars.... Most interesting to me as a Bible believing Christian is that Christ may return soon enough to retrieve all the frozen embryos that have been preserved -- instead of aborted. And any accidents in storage or transport are not murder, but "acts of God".

Actually cryo-preservation is not an option instead of abortion. Cryo-preservation can only be performed at the stage in which an embryo's cells are dense and contain only extremely small amounts of water, otherwise, the water would crystallize and burst the cells, so that cryo-preservation can only be done on embryos created in laboratories in the process of IVF (in vitro fertilization).

I am mom to two such children.

This is the most psycho thing I've heard this week. Storing frozen aborted fetuses so they will be saved in the coming apocalypse? That's a Weekly World News headline isn't it? I think the most disturbing thing is that some people would find this absurdity more satisfactory than stem cell research or abortion. I am amazed that humans have been able to get as far as we have with so many of us complete maniacs.

The funny thing is, value to all things is directly proportunal to their rarity; gold, silver, the elements of beauty, kinds of food, and people. The more people in the world the less valuable each one is. The less of a person they are and the more of a statistic they are. So why, I wonder, could so many be so against another unwanted mouth to feed? Eventualy there will be no food, there will be no privacy, there will be no land, and we wouldn't recognise our own world because of over population. And there will be no sanctety of life any longer because so many misguided people sought to preserve them all.

Does a women have a right to an frozen embryo after the relationship fails?

I watched an article this morning about a woman who had a frozen embryo from a relationship that ended 5 years ago. She is demanding to use it. The man said no. In court the man won.
Personally I agree with the courts.

No man should be made to have a child that he doesn't want, I feel sorry for the woman involved but that's ethics and the court was right.

No one has the right to force someone to become a parent.
I agree with the courts too.

I feel sorry for her but why would she want to have a child by him?
He wouldn't have any rights to use it with another woman so why should she?

I totally agree with the Court too. A woman has a right whether or not to keep a child, so in this case, a man does a choice, so he should be given the choice. Obviously, he didnt want to be related in any way to this woman, so i think he is totally within his rights to object and have them destroyed.

Have you had a successful frozen embryo transfer?

I am scheduled to have a frozen embryo transfer in 2 weeks (assuming the little guys thaw OK) -- just looking for some success stories from others to keep me optimistic! Thanks!

Ooohhh good luck.

I am starting all my fertility drugs again tommorow for my second round.

Still hoping and sending positive thoughts your way. I was watching from here to maternity and a lady on there had twins from her frozen embryo transfer so it can happen.

I have also found a couple of good forums "bub hub" and IVF world where you can get support and encouragement.

I really wish you all the best as I can understand how emotionally involved the whole situation is. GOOD LUCK hopefully we will both be pregnant in a few weeks!

Day 2 (Embryo Freezing)

Cryopreservation gives us the possibility to store the embryos that will not be transferred in the present cycle for a later date without the cost ...

Mini IVF – another option to consider when you need fertility ...

Conventional IVF is a very involved procedure, and one that is not without its risks. It requires the use of fertility drugs to induce hyper ovulation that produces as many eggs as possible at once. These injectable drugs have many side effects, and the treatment is very expensive –  $18,000 per cycle is not unusual, and the chances of getting pregnant are fairly low. There is another option you may want to consider if you need medical intervention to conceive, though. “Mini IVF” is said to have a higher success rate, and fewer risks. If you have not heard about Mini IVF before, here’s an overview. Mini IVF is a procedure that was developed by Japanese researchers, as an answer to the problems that many patients have with traditional IVF. Unlike the usual IVF procedure, which involves weeks of injectable fertility drugs before implantation, high estrogen levels and progesterone injections for ten weeks after implantation, Mini IVF requires much less fertility drugs.

Mini IVF starts with the patient taking Clomid on day three of their cycle. The use of Clomid is continued until ovulation approaches, and then a low dose of gonadotropin is added on strategic days of the cycle. This enables the harvesting of a small number of high quality eggs.

One of the greatest advantages of Mini IVF is that there is no need to use Lupron or other hormonal injections. Clomid does have its negative sides however, one of which is that it affects the uterine lining in such a way as to make it more difficult for eggs to implant into the uterus.

The researchers that developed Mini IVF solved this problem by introducing “vitrification”, an embryo freezing technique. Vitrification is the safest embryo freezing technique developed to date, with almost no risks. Frozen embryos resulting from this process can be used in natural cycles later on.

Not only is Mini IVF less involved than its traditional counterpart, but its success rates are also higher, especially in older women who are striving to get pregnant. And in addition to a more pleasant procedure, and higher success rate, Mini IVF is also much less expensive. For many women in need of fertility treatment, it is an extremely serious option to look into.
